Practice overview

Ruhi has a broad commercial practice which includes a wide range of commercial and banking disputes, insolvency and property litigation.

Ruhi is a robust and meticulous advocate who regularly appears in the County Court, High Court and Court of Appeal.

Ruhi also has experience of drafting legal documents for complex commercial transactions and shareholder agreements.

Prior to transferring to the commercial bar, Ruhi worked for a number of well-respected City law firms where she earned a reputation as an effective and strategic litigator who leaves no stone unturned for clients. During this time, she also obtained Higher Rights of Audience and appeared as a solicitor advocate on numerous High Court and County Court applications.

Banking

Ruhi has recently worked on the following matters:

  • Acting in a claim against a large national bank and appointed administrators for breach of fair dealing and self-dealing, breach of statutory duty, unlawful interference, unlawful means conspiracy and conspiracy to injure
  • Acting for a large national bank in relation to claim against a director of travel publishing company for breach of a guarantee and indemnity agreement and ensuing mortgage possession proceedings
  • Acting for a national bank in relation to stay of execution and possession proceedings against a borrower

Commercial Litigation

Ruhi has recently been instructed on the following matters:

  • Acting for a partner in a dispute over the dissolution of the partnership and the sale of the partnership asset
  • Acting for the defendant in a dispute over the terms of a shareholder agreement
  • Defending an office equipment supplier against a claim for breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duties, conspiracy and deceit and dishonest assistance
  • Defending a company director in a claim for deceit and conspiracy to injure and preparing an application to contest the Court’s jurisdiction

Injunctions

Ruhi has experience of a range of injunctions which has included:

  • Obtaining a Norwich Pharmacal order on behalf of an interior design partnership
  • Acting for an energy company on an injunction to restrain presentation of a winding up petition
  • Acting for Joint Liquidators in obtaining a worldwide freezing order in respect of company assets

Insolvency

In addition to regular instructions to appear at petition and application hearings in respect of corporate and personal insolvency matters, Ruhi has recently been instructed on the following matters:

  • Acting for Joint Liquidators in a claim for specific performance and/or breach of contract against a purchaser of a commercial property
  • Advising Joint Liquidators on a claim for misfeasance and breach of fiduciary duty against directors of an IT technology company
  • Advising and representing a director of an insolvent company in respect of potential claims for wrongful and/or fraudulent trading to be brought by the Joint Administrators

Property Litigation

Ruhi is experienced in property litigation matters which has included the following matters:

  • Acting for Joint Trustees in possession proceedings against a bankrupt and her husband
  • Challenging business rates on behalf of a property management company
  • Advising a property development company on a dispute with their tenant in relation to rights to light
