Ruhi Sethi-Smith

Ruhi is a commercial barrister with expertise in a wide range of commercial and banking disputes. Her clients include national banks, FTSE listed companies, insurance companies, property development companies, IT consultants, management consultants, company directors, liquidators and administrators.

 

Ruhi is a robust and meticulous advocate and she has appeared regularly in the High Court and Commercial Court as the sole advocate. 

 

Prior to transferring to the commercial bar, Ruhi worked for a number of well-respected City law firms where she earned a reputation as an effective and strategic litigator who leaves no stone unturned for clients. During this time, she also obtained Higher Rights of Audience and appeared as a solicitor advocate on numerous High Court and County Court applications.

Ruhi is currently instructed on the following cases:
 

  • Defending a large national bank in relation to a claim by the director of a property company for mis-selling, duress and LIBOR fixing. 

  • Acting for a company in a claim for specific performance and/or damages in relation to an agreement for petroleum and natural gas exploration. 

  • Acting for a high net worth individual in a high profile claim for conspiracy, fraudulent mis-representation, duress and undue influence against the directors of a property valuation company. 

  • Acting for a party to an escrow agreement in relation to a potential claim for breach of fiduciary duties.

  • Acting for a national bank in relation to stay of execution and possession proceedings against a borrower.

  • Acting for a company director and beneficiary to an estate in relation to a dispute over ownership of assets. 

  • Defending an aircraft technology company in a breach of contract and fiduciary duties dispute. 

  • Acting on a challenge to liability for business rates in respect of an unfinished development of student accommodation
